Alternate wetting and drying (AWD) technology has been introduced more than a decade ago to reduce use of irrigation water for rice production and also reduce methane emission from rice field. The technology has been accepeted by all stakeholders as effiecient but it was not scaled up sufficiently. During 2016- 2019 in Bangladesh, IRRI together with a number of public agencies, NGOs and farmer groups have piloted a collective approach for AWD dissemination a s a collective approach. this Approach proved that if a farmer, pump owners, other extension and research agents work together and complement each other and share the benifit, then this technology has a vey good prospect.Alternate wetting and drying (AWD) technology has been introduced more than a decade ago to reduce use of irrigation water for rice production and also reduce methane emission from rice field.
